thecontributing

essays，written

Wei

Naixing（2003），reviews

the

majorapproaches

to

the

study

of

collocations

in

the

past

fifty

years

with

adiscussion

on

the

major

defining

features

of

each

approach

and

thegeneral

trends

for

conceptual

changes

and

methodology

develop-ments.Li

Guoqing（2002），with

a

review

on

Firth's

notion

of

colloca-tion,proposes

that

Firth'S

notion

should

be

viewed

against

the

back-ground

of

his

general

theory

of

meaning.He

concludes

that

it’S

a

re-action

against

the

longstanding

referential

approach

to
